Iron man is a 2008 superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. Directed by Jon Favreau, the film stars Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. He is a master engineer with playboy vices. Tony is a genius inventor, and CEO of Stark Industries, who manufactures weapons for the U.S. military.

Tony was born with extremely high intelligence. At the age of 15, Stark completed the undergraduate electrical engineering program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he graduated. When he was 21 years old his parents was in a car accident and were killed. He then inherited Stark Enterprises.

Stark becomes a billionaire playboy, and has a tendency to be able to conquer women either romantically or physically, following in the literary footsteps of such heroes as James Bond. In fact, the director found the opportunity to create a politically ambitious "ultimate spy movie" in "Iron Man".

Stark is severely wounded by terrorists using bombs built by his own company, during a kidnapping in Afghanistan. He is ordered by his captors to build a destructive weapon. He, instead, uses his time in captivity, to create a power suit to save his life and help him escape. He then later develops the "arc reactor" powered exoskeleton to become the technologically advanced superhero, Iron Man.

Stan Lee, the co-creator of the Iron Man comics, makes a cameo appearance in the film, when Stark mistakes him for Hugh Hefner at a party. Director Favreau also appears as Stark's bodyguard/chauffeur, Happy Hogan.

The sequel, Iron Man II, is currently in production and due to be released in May, 2010. It will feature a script co-written by director, Favreau and star, Robert Downey Jr.
