Steampunk Costumes

Steampunk came into popularity in the late 1980’s through the early 90’s. The Steampunk fashion movement is based on the juxtaposition of the Victorian time period and technology, that is, technology as the Victorian era would have envisioned it. Inspiration for the Steampunk fashions comes from the works of those such as H.G. Wells and Jules Verne, and the machines as well as the technologies that were envisioned by these great authors.

Steampunk style is Victorian based but has inventive twists that seem to come right out of the minds of the Victorian age. Gowns with bustles, corsets and parasols would be a common look for Steampunk females. Suits with vests for men, along with period timepieces, monocles, goggles, (and perhaps even a ray gun) would be a typical male Steampunk look.

The Steampunk fashion look is uniquely gothic and has a punk original twist that may be just what you are looking for to make an unforgettable statement at your next dress up event or Halloween party.
