Now enjoyed by the most noble of pedigrees, the wig quickly became a fashion icon in the aristocratic world of power and display. At the time many signature hairstyles of the upper class women were copied and worn by numerous women wanting to be just as fashionable. By the end of the King's reign, wigs had spread well beyond the noble realm. Today, the periwig can still be seen in the modern British courts.
