Halloween Has Gone to the Dogs!

Halloween is going to the dogs!  Each year the holiday becomes more and more popular not only with adults and children, but their pets as well.  Actually it’s really not the pet that loves to dress up as much as it is the pet’s owner that gets the final say.  Who doesn’t love to see a dog dressed in drag on Halloween night, but it’s not for all dogs. Some pet Halloween costumes can pose safety and health hazards, so chose a costume that works with your dog.  It should not constrict the pet’s movement or hearing or impede his ability to breathe or bark.  The costume should be flame retardant and it’s important to remove any small or dangling accessories that could be chewed and swallowed.  You know your pets personality, if they’re happier going in their “birthday suit” than so be it.  However, that doesn't work with the owner!

At Halloween Express we have a wide variety of adorable pet costumes for your dog.  Picking out the perfect costume for your pet is just like finding one for you child.  Every dog has his/her own personality and many of our costumes play up to that.  Is your dog wild and crazy or timid and shy?  Does she think she's "Queen" of the house?  Take all that into consideration when looking for a costume for your dog

There is not a dog alive that wouldn't look adorable in any of these costumes.  We have two Great Danes and a new puppy chocolate Lab that will be dressed up for Halloween this year.  I'm letting the kids pick out what costumes they want the dogs to be.  With all these great costumes to pick from I'm hoping they can decide on just one!  Remember pets love Halloween too!

Halloween 2008, 2009, 2010 - It's Party Time!

Last year Halloween fell on a Wednesday which only gave us the weekend before Halloween to throw parties and costume contests.  However the next three years will be great for the Halloween holiday!  This year Halloween falls on a Friday, in 2009 it's on Saturday and in 2010 it's Sunday.  Wow that will give all the party goers and costume wearers plenty of time to have fun, celebrate and enjoy all the great things the Halloween holiday has to offer. Just think, for the next three years you'll get a lot more wear out of your costume!  Not only will you have the weekend before Halloween to show off your costume at party's, nightclubs, masquerade balls and the such, but you'll have the weekend of Halloween to do the same.  So that gives you plenty of time to prance around in whatever amazing costume or costumes you come up with this year, next year and the year after that! Speaking of costumes I'm thinking about going humorous this year.  There are so many funny costumes to choose from here at Halloween Express.  Just looking at some of them you can't help but laugh.  If you're a serious person by nature then the best costume for you at Halloween would definitely be something funny.  It completely throws everybody else off guard and shows you have a funny side too.  Here are just a few of my favorite "funny" costumes:

Martini Glass

Aloha Gorilla

Beer Keg

Baby In A Highchair

So if you want to be the life of the party and make people laugh (but remember they'll be laughing at you not with you), be sure to dress humorous this Halloween.  Check out all the funny adult costumes Halloween Express has to offer and order one today!

OK ladies this one's for you!  I know the sports world is dominated by the men (or so they think), but this Halloween I think it's time we showed them that we've got what it takes to take sports costumes to an all new level! Growing up with older brothers I somehow always managed to end up being a baseball or football player for Halloween.  Back then I just threw on my brothers uniform, put a little black junk under my eyes and away I went.  Today it's a whole new ballgame - no pun intended!  Not only can you dress up as a baseball or football player but also as a race car driver and even a referee.  However, the fun part is that every costume is geared toward making woman look and feel sexy even while wearing your average baseball uniform (well maybe not your "average" uniform)! With costume names like these they're bound to get attention!  So go on ladies, shake things up a bit this Halloween and have some fun!  Believe me the guys will never look at sports the same again!

It Only Takes a Costume To Become a Superhero!

My son Caden turned nine last Wednesday so we had a big birthday party for him at our house on Saturday.  I let Cade pick out the theme for his party and he decided on "Superheroes".  With the Batman movie The Dark Knight being released Friday he already knew that's exactly who he wanted to be.  So Friday night my husband and I took him to see the movie (with everybody else in the free world).  It was packed but honestly it was really cool because everybody in the theater was cheering on Batman so Cade really got into it.  By the way, the movie was (as Cade would say) AWESOME!  I was looking forward to it because I liked Batman Returns, but I had no idea it would be as good as it was.  In my blog earlier that day I said that a lot of reviews had Heath Ledger earning an oscar for his role as Joker and now that I've seen the movie, I wholeheartedly agree with it!  He was amazing.  You would have never guessed it was Heath Ledger playing the part.  Nothing in the Joker's character would have given it away.  Anyway, if you haven't seen the movie you should! Back to the party...  Caden made a very handsome Batman (if I do say so myself) and what was so neat was that every one of his friends came as a Superhero of some sort.  Thankfully Caden was the only Batman, but we did have Superman, Spiderman, The Green Flash, Captain America, Zorro, a few of the Power Rangers, The Incredible Hulk plus a couple Ninja Turtles thrown in for good measure.  The kids loved it!  They were on a sugar high all day, running around with masks on and capes flying.

If you need an idea for a theme party for your child's birthday, then you have to throw a "Superhero" party.  Believe me your child and their friends will have so much fun and it will be a party they won't soon forget!  Check out our kids Superhero costume page here at Halloween Express and let your kids decide which Superhero they want to be for the day!

Are You Ready for The Dark Knight?

"Out of the Darkness Comes the Knight"!  A tagline from one of the most anticipated summer movies being released today, The Dark Knight.  It's the sequel to the 2005 movie Batman Begins.  Batman is back and he's better than ever!  One of the reasons I think a lot of people want to see this movie is to see Heath Ledger play the role of the archvillian Joker.  It's still hard to believe that he passed away weeks after wrapping the film at the young age of 28.  Every review that I've read about Heath Ledger is that whether or not you are a huge fan of his, he was completely believable as the terrifying prince of crime and deserves an Oscar nomination for his role as Joker.  That's pretty amazing if you ask me!  What I think makes the Joker so real and creepy is that Ledger doesn't wear a mask in this movie, it's all done with special effects makeup.  To get the smudged, scary look a makeup artist sprayed water over Heath's black-rimmed eyes and had him shake his head so gunk dripped down his painted charlk-white face with the scarred red mouth-to-cheek grin.  His grungy hair and yellowing teeth top the look of evil off perfectly.

The Dark Knight

My favorite character has to be Bruce Wayne's butler extraordinaire, Alfred  who is played by Michael Caine.  He's the perfect father figure for Bruce, always so soft spoken and gentle.  Apparently in this movie Alfred harbors a secret that could crush his boss's spirit.  I wonder what that could be?  Morgan Freeman, whom I absolutely love, is reprising his role as Lucius Fox, the scientist who designs all those wonderful toys that Batman gets to play with.   This time it's the "Batpod" that's way cool!   With everyone raving about how Dark Knight is "the blockbuster film of the year", you can imagine that the Dark Knight and Joker costumes are flying off the shelf already!  Whether you want a mask or the deluxe costume we have everything you need here at Halloween Express.  Don't wait - order yours today!!

Halloween Costumes for Tweens

Finding the perfect Halloween costume isn't always easy, especially for "tweens".  When kids are at that age they don't want to wear a costume that makes them look like a baby, but they're still just a little too young for the teenager look.  The word tween is used for children just before their teens "between" childhood and being teenagers, usually 8-12 years of age.   It doesn't seem as important for boys as it does for girls since as we all know girls can be a little more dramatic about their appearance.     My son Caden will turn nine tomorrow so he's still in the first half of the "tween" ages, but my sister has two tween daughters that she goes round and round with at Halloween about what they can and can't wear for costumes.  A lot of what they pick out (according to their mother) is geared more toward an older teenager and so she's usually pulling her hair out before they finally come to a unanimous decision. I told her about our new "Tween Scene" collection we have at Halloween Express.  It has something for every tween out there, boy or girl.  The tween girls  love the costume names like "High Seas Hottie" and "Pirate Cutie" and the mom's love the fact that they are great costumes with enough coverage but still have that edge that a lot of the tween aged girls are looking for.

Pirate Cutie Tween Costume   High Seas Hottie Tween Costume

So if you have a "tween" aged son or daughter be sure to check out our Tween Costume collection soon.  Don't wait too long because these costumes are going fast!

Saving the world is a hell of a job; Believe it or not - he's the good guy; Good never looked so bad...  In case you have no idea what I'm talking about, these are a few of the taglines for a huge summer movie that opens today at theaters everywhere - Hellboy II: The Golden Army by Universal Studios.  Just by seeing the trailers that have been on televsion for the last couple weeks, it looks like it's going to be great movie that both kids and adults alike will want to see.  One review said that it is by far the most imaginative action movie in ages - a mix of epic fantasy, tender romance, broad comedy and double-barreled excitement that will surely satisfy.  Not to shabby considering the main character is a spawn of satan called Hellboy who apparently also has a down-to-earth side with a fondness for Cuban cigars, Mexican beer, TV and candy.  Here's a quick "what's it about" in a nutshell:  After an ancient truce existing between humankind and the invisible realm of the fantastic is broken, hell on Earth is ready to erupt.  A ruthless leader who treads the world above and the one below defies his bloodline and awakens an unstoppable army of creatures (aka: The Golden Army).  Now, it's up to the planet's toughest, roughest superhero Hellboy - or "Red" to his friends - to battle the merciless dictator and his army.

I'm looking forward to seeing this movie because I like the fact that it has a little bit of everything in it - action, comedy, romance and sci-fi all rolled into one; good v/s evil.  With a so-called superhero as charming as "Red" you can bet we'll see a lot of Hellboy's running around during the Halloween season.  At Halloween Express we have everything from the vinyl face mask to the full deluxe costume in both children and adult sizes.  So hurry and order one today!!

You Can Be President for a Day!

I hope everyone had a great Fourth of July weekend!  We had a lot of rain during the day on Friday so it put a little damper on the pool party, but at least it cleared up enough in the evening for the neighborhood fireworks show to go off as planned.   The kids figured you get wet when you swim anyway so they spent most of the day swimming in the rain and had a blast.  The next holiday in line is Labor Day on the first of September then of course on to my favorite - Halloween!  Actually in approximately 115 days it will be Halloween.  I know that sounds really far off now, but as we all know time flies and before you know it Labor Day will have come and gone and we'll be heading into October. With the political race for the US President in full swing you can bet we'll see a lot of people dressing up as Barack O'Bama and John McCain this Halloween season.  Whether you're voting for your favorite Republican nominee or favorite Democratic nominee all you need is the full vinyl mask that you'll find here at Halloween Express, add to that a suit and tie and you're set!   It's really a very simple costume that will make a big statement this year.  By October the Presidential race will be hotter than ever!  If it's Presidential masks you're looking for, but would rather step back a year or two, or six or ten then don't let that stop you.  Check out our Bill and Hillary Clinton masks or Richard Nixon and Ronald Regan.  For a more up-to-date look you could always go with the current President George Bush Jr mask.

No matter which Presidential mask you choose just remember to have fun this Halloween season.  Just because you're President for the night doesn't mean you have to act like one!

Big Weekend of Fireworks and Superheroes!

  • July 02, 2008

I hope everyone has big plans this weekend to get out, enjoy the beautiful summer weather and see some amazing fireworks!  This year Fourth of July is on Friday, but I think most of the party's will be on Saturday the 5th.  Saturday's are always easier especially if you're the one throwing the party.  After a long day of work on Friday the last thing you want to do is come home and throw a party.  However, it's always easier if someone else is throwing the party and your just going to relax and have fun, then a Friday party is fine!  The best deal with this on the Fourth of July is usually your neighborhood park or community center because there's always some planned picnic and firework show to enjoy.  Not only is the weekend going to be busy with Fourth of July celebrations, but Wednesday July 2nd is going to be a big day at the theaters.  The movie "Hancock" starring Will Smith is being released that day and by all the talk from movie goers it's going to be a big summer blockbuster hit!  He plays a hard-living superhero that has fallen out of favor with the public until the day he saves the life of a man and realizes he may have a vulnerable side after all.   The tagline is;  "There are heroes, there are superheroes and then there's Hancock".  And you know how much we love those superheroes at Halloween Express, right?
