A New Twist on Old Fairy Tales!

Fairy tales have been around since the beginning of time.  As a child my mom read them to me and now being a mom myself I read them to my children.  I'm sure when they get older they will read them to their children, and so on and so on and so on.  "Once upon a time" and "happily ever after" are words we've heard a million times. Some popular fairy tales are:
  • Little Red Riding Hood
  • Goldilocks and the Three Bears
  • Hansel and Gretel
  • Alice in Wonderland
  • Wizard of Oz
Today these costumes have taken on a whole new look in the adult costume world.  Little Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks have never looked sexier!  So this year when you're trying to figure out a costume to wear to your annual Halloween costume party check out the new look of Alice in Alice in Wonderland costumes or Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz costumes.  Believe me you'll definitely get a second and third look and everyone will love it!

Senior Year Fiesta!

The high school years are finally over for all the seniors 2009 and now they're getting ready to move into the next phase of their lives whether it be college or into the working world.  But before all that they have a couple months of summer break that will be filled with wild and crazy graduation parties! In my last blog I wrote about the ever-popular Hawaiian Luau theme party that always makes for easy planning when organizing a grad party.  Today I'm going to talk about another theme that is just as fun - Mexican Fiesta Party! The word fiesta means "a festive celebration" and that's exactly what a graduation party should be.  You can greet your guests with colorful sombreros and castanets.  Decorate in colors of red, white and green.  Mexican ponchos, sombreros and colorful serapes are perfect attire for your guests.  Senors and senoritas can snack on chips and salsa in addition to bite size fajitas, tortillas and enchaladas. A pinata and frozen (non-alcoholic) margarita drinks add the perfect touch to your fiesta theme party!

Aloha Graduation Party!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and enjoyed the un-official start of summer!  My kids are finishing up their last week of school and then it's summer break for them.  This week is pretty simple with just turning in books and helping to clean up their classroom and school.   I'm sure the older kids in high school aren't enjoying this last week quite as much since they have to contend with end of the year exams.  With June and July being big months for graduation parties, many parents are looking for ways to make their teenagers party memorable.  The best way to do that is by creating a "theme" for your party.  Here are some ideas:
  • Hawaiian Luau
  • Fiesta
  • Casino
  • Mardi Gras
  • Sports
  • College Bound
The most popular theme for a graduation party is the Hawaiian Luau theme.  There is a lot you can do with carrying this fun tropical theme thoughout your party.  Hawaiian costumes, flowered leis, tiki torches and it's easy to decorate in a tropical theme with palm trees, coconuts and thatch umbrellas.

HalloweenExpress.com has everything you'll need to make a fun-filled grad party, Hawaiian style!

Un-official Start of Summer!

Well, it's finally here - Memorial Day week-end, the un-official start of summer.  The official first day of summer is June 21st and is called the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year.  I would definitely much rather have the longest day of the year during the summer months than the winter.  Those months seem long enough as it is! Memorial Day weekend brings with it picnics, parades, festivals and something the kids all love - a day off school!  Sales are bigger than ever this weekend with everything from cars to clothing being reduced in price.  Great time to get out there and get those bathing suits and flip flops. The weather is finally becoming hot here in Kentucky.  We've had enough rain the past month to float a battleship, but finally a few days of sun, sun and more sun.  It's going to be a beautiful Memorial Day weekend. Don't forget with summer comes school closings and the kids will be looking to you for ways to keep them busy during the day.  Kids costumes are a great way to bring out their creative sides and put those imaginations to work.  Disney costumes are really popular and so are superhero costumes!  Create a fun and learning environment for your kids this summer simply by letting them open up their imaginations!

Beautiful Brides!

May is one of the most popular months for weddings.  Brides-to-be are running around making sure all the last minute preparations are in place hoping for a smooth wedding day with no problems.  The grooms are just hanging out not really worried about anything at this point.  That's why thankfully the brides take care of all the planning; arranging the invitations, finding a dress, picking out tuxes, ordering flowers, deciding on bridesmaids, the cake, music, food and last but not least the honeymoon destination.  Most women would rather do it all themselves then have to brow-beat the groom into making decisions.  Of course, it's a known fact that if a man planned the wedding and reception it would most likely be beer and a barbeque!  Although after some of the weddings I've been to, that wouldn't be a bad idea.  Sometimes less is more! Women dream of their wedding day from the time they're little girls.  I think that's why it's so much more important for the woman than the man because she wants everything to go perfectly, just like she'd dreamed.  The flowing white gown, beautiful flowers, lovely music and the man of her dreams waiting at the alter.  Little girls love to play dressup and pretend they're the beautiful bride walking down the isle and looking gorgeous.  Bridal costumes are a huge hit for little girls not only at Halloween, but all year as well.  Pretend weddings are held in the basements and bedrooms of every little girl all over the world.  HalloweenExpress.com has everything you need to give your little girl the best dressup bride costume she has ever had.  She can play pretend in it over the summer and then wear it to go trick-or-treating on Halloween.  Fairytale bride, blushing bride, elegant bride and  the blissful bride costume are just a few of the adorable kids costumes you'll find at Halloween Express.

Even though summer doesn't officially start until June 21st, to many college students it is now summer!  May is also a big month for many grade and high school students to be getting their summer breaks and parents are scrambling to find things for their children to do over the summer.  I can't believe Memorial Day is only two weeks away!  To me that is the "unofficial" start to summer.  With the parades and families getting together for grill-outs, it's always a great time to start the summer.  Don't forget your red, white and blue decorations, accessories AND costumes!  At HalloweenExpress.com you'll find patriotic costumes for every age.

Kids Costumes

A great way to keep your little ones occupied over the summer is with costumes.  Playing dress-up is a fun and creative way for your child to play.  With kids costumes you can let your child's imagination run wild!  They will play for hours as cowboys and Indians, superheroes that save the world, princesses and knights in shining armor.  Girls and boys will both have fun picking out costumes for their summer fun!

Wow, I can remember watching Star Trek when I was young and being so in love with Captain Kirk played by a young William Shatner.  Who can forget phrases like "beam me up Scottie" and "going where no man has gone before."  Today is the official release date of the movie Star Trek and it looks like it's going to be a big hit!  If you loved Captain Kirk back in his heydey on the tv then you're going to love the Captain Kirk in this movie.  He's played by the actor Chris Pine and all the young girls out there (even the old ones like me) think he's a hottie! This Star Trek is actually a prequel to the original Star Trek movie.  It's all about how James T. Kirk got into the Starfleet academy and how he became "Captain" Kirk.  This movie looks really exciting with lots of action, adventure and sci-fi.  This is another one of those movies with characters that will make great Halloween costumes!  There are thousands of "trekkies" out there that whole heartedly follow Star Trek religiously.  With this new release Captain Kirk, Spock, Scottie and Dr. McCoy are going to be huge hits in costumes this Halloween.  Don't delay check out the cool Captain Kirk costumes today! At HalloweenExpress.com they have all the Star Trek costumes you need to make this Halloween, out of this world!

X-Men Wolverine Is Back!

Today May 1, is the official release of the movie "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."  It's actually a prequel to the X-Men blockbuster franchise, going back to the beginning and showing how the mutant character Wolverine came to be.  By the way Hugh Jackman who plays Wolverine just got People's Magazine "Sexiest Man Alive" title!  So for all you ladies out there, it's an added bonus when going to see the movie!  He's got my vote! My son, Caden has been bugging my husband all week to take him to see it this weekend.  So sure enough, tonight he's taking Caden and a few of his friends to see the movie.  It's already received great reviews so I'm betting the movie theater is going to be pretty packed tonight!  I think I'll wait and see it next week.  I'm sure Caden will want to go again anyway! You can bet the Wolverine costume will be a huge hit this Halloween season!  I can see it now, kids running around with the Wolverine signature 3 blades on each hand trying to trick or treat and not hurt someone in the process!  You can bet there will be plenty of adult Wolverine's out there too this Halloween.
