Movies make up a large part of Halloween costumes.  There are so many great movie characters from the past and present that it's hard to choose just one.  From adult costumes to kids costumes, has them all! Superheroes are always at the top of the charts when it comes to costumes.  Batman, Spiderman and Superman are the three most popular superhero costumes.  They're the classic tried-and-true of the crime fighting, save the world superheroes. Of course you can't have Halloween without Jason, Michael and Freddie!  Friday the 13th, Halloween and Nightmare of Elm Street are old school Halloween and everyone loves them!  Star Wars, Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean are just a few movies that have stood the test of time when it comes to great Halloween costumes.  This year with big blockbuster hits like Transformers, Wolverine and Star Trek making appearances on the big screen there's no doubt that the Halloween movie costumes of 2009 will be spectacular!

Fourth of July is Rockin!

Fourth of July will be upon us in a couple weeks!  Summer is in full swing and the kids are having a blast being off for the summer.  Pool parties, concerts and graduation parties are marking everyone's calendars making the weekends fly by. One big universal party is coming up - July 4th!  Everyone loves the July 4th holiday with cookouts, parades and of course fireworks.  I've noticed the street side stands going up within the last couple days in our community.  The kids love to stop in and get the sparklers, bottle rockets and fire crakers.  We always decorate the yard with a ton of those small plastic American flags plus one big one that we leave up year around.  The kids get to decorate with the flags any way they want to.  We ususally end up with flags everywhere and so do the neighbors.  My son Caden dresses up as Uncle Sam and waves at the parade as they go by.  Everyone in the parade gets a big kick out of seeing him in his Uncle Sam costume.  Of course the girls don't want to be upstaged, so Sydney wears her Statue of Liberty costume (complete with torch) and Olivia runs around in her red, white and blue cheerleading outfit.  Once the parade is over the family comes over for food and fun.  My husband and brother-in-law let off the most amazing firework display at the end of the night.  If you want to add a little fun to your Fourth of July, dress up in a Patriotic costume from

Don't Forget the Makeup!

The biggest aspect of the Halloween holiday is of course, costumes.  For children it's the fun of dressing up and going out trick-or-treating; for adults a costume makes up the character or "thing" they become for a night out with their friends clubbing or going for that 1st prize win at costume parties. Halloween costumes are all fine and good, but what makes a costume complete is the costume makeup.  Even though many costumes today have masks as part of the look, many rely on accessories such as makeup to put the finishing touches on their costume.  And it's definitely not your mothers makeup!

Halloween makeup kits are so easy to apply since most are geared toward your specific costume.  Clowns, devils, vampires and witches are just a few costumes in which makeup kits are easy to apply.  Instructions on how to apply the makeup is included in each kit and easy to follow. So before you just throw on a mask, ask yourself if makeup would be a better alternative to give your costume the edge you're looking for!

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is coming soon to a theater near you!  Actually its release date is Wednesday, June 24th and my son Caden couldn't be happier.  We took him to see the orginal Transformers movie back in 2007 and he loved it.  I was actually thinking about not going with him and my husband because I thought it was going to be a "kids" movie and I wasn't a big transformer toy fan.  Wow, I couldn't have been more wrong!  It was awesome! Even though the transformers are actually "autobots" and are there to save the humans on earth, each autobot has a personality and before you know it you're cheering them on; Optimus Prime and Bumblebee are so cute! Now with the sequel coming out next week, Transformer costumes will be flying off the shelves!  Kids all over the world are going to want to put on an Optimus Prime costume or Bumblebee Costume and save the Earth from Megatron.  It will be a great summer costume as well giving your kids hours of fun saving the world!

Pet Costumes Rock!

To get ready for the Halloween season everyone is busy checking out all the new trendy costumes.  Summer usually brings with it some great blockbuster movies with characters that give way for cool Halloween costumes.  Costumes come in all shapes and sizes; big and tall, short and small...and puppy size.  The cutest thing in the world is to see dog's dressed in drag!  Pet costumes have become a huge sensation although I'm pretty sure the pet owners like to see their dogs dressed up a lot more than the actual dog does.  Every day on celebrity news you see another actor/actress prancing around town with their pet decked out in the latest fashions.  I know it's cute and sweet, but I'm pretty sure the dog would rather wait until Halloween to get dressed up.  And where do all the pet owner's look for their four-legged friends costumes?? of course! At not only do they have a costume for every dog personality out there, but they have so many great styles to choose from.  Is your pet sweet and cuddly?  Then by all means check out the Snow White pet costume or maybe even the Eeyore pet costume.  Maybe your dog leans more toward the roughneck crowd?  If that's the case then you have to get your pooch a Biker Dog costume or Tatto Dog costume.  Halloween is a fun holiday for the whole family.  This year don't leave Fido out in the cold when it comes to participating in costume activities.  Dress them up just like one of the family!

Fairy tales have been around since the beginning of time.  As a child my mom read them to me and now being a mom myself I read them to my children.  I'm sure when they get older they will read them to their children, and so on and so on and so on.  "Once upon a time" and "happily ever after" are words we've heard a million times. Some popular fairy tales are:
  • Little Red Riding Hood
  • Goldilocks and the Three Bears
  • Hansel and Gretel
  • Alice in Wonderland
  • Wizard of Oz
Today these costumes have taken on a whole new look in the adult costume world.  Little Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks have never looked sexier!  So this year when you're trying to figure out a costume to wear to your annual Halloween costume party check out the new look of Alice in Alice in Wonderland costumes or Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz costumes.  Believe me you'll definitely get a second and third look and everyone will love it!
