Terminator Costume Masks

From the earliest days of silent films to the more modern film masterpieces that today thrill audiences everywhere, movies have definitely become a huge part of the cultural fabric of American society.  Many movies are so infamous that they are known by one simple line from the script--these catchphrases have become a huge part of American vernacular with multiple meanings as well as associations.  As you get ready to get into your favorite movie character this Halloween, keep some of these more infamous movie lines (and the characters that go with them) in mind!  Here’s a list of some of our faves:

I’ll Be Back.  (The Terminator)-Today you can put on your best tough guy imitation and use this line to say you are soon returning, with an “attitude” of course!

Frankly, My Dear, I don’t give a damn.  (Gone With The Wind)-In today’s terms, this phrase is a very useful way to show complete indifference after you’ve “had it up to here”…particularly effective spewed right before heading into the man cave.

The Name is Bond, James Bond.  (James Bond Franchise)  Just feeling sexy and you know it? This phrase can be pretty funny if timed just right.  If you take it too seriously, however, you might fall flat on your noggin’ and just look like an idiot.

Life is Like a Box of Chocolates. (Forest Gump)-This phrase means basically that you never know what life is going to throw at you--some of life’s surprises are good, others not so much.

Houston, We Have a Problem.  (Apollo 13)- A universal phrase that now means, “Uh-oh, we’ve got big trouble…!!”  You’ve said it, I’ve said it, okay--we’ve all said it.

May the Force be with you.  (Star Wars) -This is sort of a sci-fi-ish way of expressing a similar sentiment to “May God be with you”.

Show Me the Money!  (Jerry Maguire)-Exactly what it says, essentially “put your money where your mouth is” or let the “money do the talking!”  This is useful in so many fiscally oriented situations!

I’m going to make him an offer he can’t refuse.  (The Godfather) Hmmm, sort of a threat guised in false sincerity, but we definitely get the point.

Toto, I’ve got a feeling were not in Kansas anymore.  (The Wizard of Oz)  This essentially states that something big is going down that is really out of the norm.

If you build it, they will come.  (Field of Dreams)  Basically it means the same thing as believe in yourself and trust your instincts; good things will happen.

Why so serious?  (The Dark Knight)  The Joker’s infamous line is still useful in situations that may require a little release valve for lots of built-up tension.

Go ahead, make my day.  (Sudden Impact)  Still being used today, this infamous line almost taunts as it challenges.

Here’s Johnny! (The Shining) Obviously this infamous line was originally swiped from the Johnny Carson show, but Jack Nicholson’s version is now useful for any surprise entrance.

Elementary, my dear Watson.  (Sherlock Holmes)  Nowadays, this is the same thing as saying “this is going to be really easy!”

They’re Here! (Poltergeist)  Getting the willies or the heebie jeebies?  Are the hairs on the back of your neck, standing straight up?  This famous line pretty much says it all.

Yo Adrian! (Rocky) A very Philadelphia, boxer-style greeting that most anyone gets warm and fuzzy over.

Shop our huge collection of movie character costumes for lots of fun and exciting character choices for the most Hollywood inspired Halloween costume ever.  You might even consider learning a little bit of the lingo--some of these one-liner’s seem likely to live on forever!

Welcome to the Hotel Transylvania!

Hotel Transylvania is the perfect place for monsters to go to just be monsters without any interference or having to deal with the human world whatsoever.

If you were thinking that just because summer is officially now over that everything in the movie theater is going to be boo-ring, well you would be horrifically wrong.  Just in time to put you into the mood for Halloween and all the creatures that go with it, an animated monster movie is set to hit the theatres.  This film looks like great family entertainment and is perfect for all age groups!

Welcome to the Hotel Transylvania.  It’s a lovely and quite schwanky place, hidden away from the human world by its owner, Count Dracula, of course.  Hotel Transylvania is the perfect place for monsters to go to just be monsters without any interference or having to deal with the human world whatsoever.  Tucked away nicely in a place where humans don’t go, the Hotel Transylvania has quickly become the favorite tourist destination of frightful beings everywhere.

Count Dracula is quite astute at running his 5-fang resort and does so without a hitch.  Planning a big event is a no brainer for the clever and enigmatic Count as well, and he does so easily, inviting all the big name monsters to his resort to celebrate his daughter Mavis’ 118th birthday.  All the monster heavy hitters are going to be there--Frankenstein, his wife The Mummy, a pack of Werewolves, The Invisible Man and many more.  This should be the monster mash of all monster mashes and still the Count is taking it all in stride…that is, until something happens that makes his blood, quite simply, run cold.

With the Hotel Transylvania absolutely brimming with big time monsters doing their thing, someone clearly uninvited happens to wander into the place and in the process creates sort of a ruckus.  It’s a human!  To make matters even worse, this human that has accidentally stumbled on the Hotel Transylvania is a very radi-cool teenage boy that pretty much instantaneously becomes entranced with the Count’s lovely daughter, Mavis.  Uh-oh…now some serious trouble breweth.

The Count, by his own admission, is likely the most over-protective father in all of monsterville.  Seeing his daughter take a fancy to a human is his own worst nightmare.  Watch the Count and his groovy ghoulie monster friends enter into some pretty silly shenanigans as they deal with this vigilant monster dad’s worst-case scenario.  Hotel Transylvania features the voices of Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, Fran Drescher and David Spade.  This film has some pretty hilarious versions of all your favorite monster characters--just in time for the final countdown into Halloween!  Don’t miss Hotel Transylvania, in theatres September 28!

Glitz and Glamour-Make Halloween Your Time to Shine!

  • September 19, 2012
  • Jenna Maxwell

You know what we are talking about.  When it comes to Halloween costumes, not all of us are into those things that go bump in the night or have blood oozing from their mouths.  Some of us just want to take advantage of an opportunity to look, in a word, HOT!  Sexy, glamorous, feminine and jaw-dropping costumes are hardly unusual anymore.  As you peruse the vast selection of costumes that are available online, you will see many costumes that fall into this category.  Once you have picked out that perfect sexy costume style, here are few pointers that will help you pull that look off to its fullest advantage!

Let’s Face It: The right makeup is critical for a really sexy costume look.  Costume makeup can (and should be) heavier than your typical day-to-day makeup.  You want your makeup to look glamorous and sexy and to make a bold statement that is consistent with your costume look.  From sexy superheroes to storybook characters, lots of looks are going to need the right makeup application to make the most of your costume style.  Foundation, blush, bold eye shadow, eyeliners and bright lip colors are all things to consider when doing your costume makeup.  Shop our huge selection of costume makeup supplies.  Check out our Glam Girl how-to video tutorial for some fun ideas on how to apply fabulous costume makeup!

Flutter Worthy:  Never worn false eyelashes before?  Halloween may be the perfect time to try this novel accessory.  False eyelashes do amazing things to really open up and accentuate your eyes and create a dramatic look.  Our selection of false eyelashes includes some basic styles along with some pretty crazy colors and eye-popping styles.  Here are a few eyelash application tips:

  • Check the length.  Hold the lash up to the eyelid and if it’s too wide, trim the lash if necessary.  The right length will ensure the best fit!
  • Squeeze eyelash glue onto a toothpick, a pin, or an orange stick and then use this to apply a thin layer of glue on the edge of the lash.  Let the glue sit for a few seconds so it begins to get a little sticky.
  • Use tweezers if desired, or carefully use your fingers to get the lash as close as possible to your lash line.
  • Press the lash gently to the lash line and hold for about 30 seconds or until the glue begins to adhere to the eyelid.
  • Apply mascara while gently holding the lash from behind with your other fingertip.  Adding mascara is going to really make your eyes look huge!  Obviously if you are using colored lashes, you would skip this last step.
  • Check the lash line.  If there are any gaps, fill in with eyeliner.

Sparkle:  Glitter and products containing glitter are a Halloween must have for the glamorous gal!  You can apply glitter on your cheeks for extra sparkle and even your décolletage for extra sexy flair.  Be careful when using products with glitter in the eye area; check to make sure they are appropriate for use in the eye area.  Have fun with these sparkly products, as they are sure to add some extra sexy glimmer to your look!

Get Leggy:  One of the most important accessories you can add to your costume that you will not want to forget it stockings!  Stockings are a very simple and inexpensive item, but the look can be quite dramatic.  Thigh high stockings are very popular for many costume looks and these come in a wide variety of colors and styles.  Shop our complete selection of hosiery items to make sure you accessorize and accentuate your legs while completing your sexy costume look!

Have fun getting your sexy look on this Halloween--it’s really easy and you will undoubtedly have lots of fun making heads turn!

Aye Matey! It Be Talk Like a Pirate Day

  • September 17, 2012
  • Jenna Maxwell

Ahoy there, me pirate lovin’ friends! In case you weren’t aware, this Wednesday, September 19 marks the 10th anniversary of one of the world’s most beloved celebrations of sorts.  We are talking about, of course, “Talk Like a Pirate Day!”  (Arrrrr.) All this silly pirate-spirited buffoonery began back in 2002 as a somewhat sophomoric idea embraced by a group of goofy friends.  It seems that a lot of folks are into the whole idea, because here we are, ten years later, and now talking like a pirate is going totally mainstream.

“Talk Like a Pirate” Day is the perfect day to celebrate all things Pirate.  And why, you say, would one want to do this?  (Do you really need an excuse?)  Let’s start with our list of reasons why YOU should add “Talk Like a Pirate Day” to your social calendar.

Fabulous Vernacular: It’s not everyday you can use words like scallywag, poop deck, booty, chumbucket, etc. AND do so with a completely straight face.  Talking like a pirate is serious biz!  (Well, not really but it’s okay if you make it so, at least on the September 19th!)   Here’s are a few of the basic pirate lingo necessities to get you started:

  • Ahoy:  Hello
  • Avast:  Stop and pay attention.
  • Aye: yes
  • Aye-aye:  yes--I GOT IT!
  • Arrrrr: a universally accepted pirate response to just about anything!

Dress The Part:  Yes, talking like a Pirate is kinda silly, we admit it.  Why not go full board and take your pirate routine to a whole new level by adding a fantastic pirate costume to your all-things-pirate celebration?  You will be amazed at how much more cool your pirate vocabulary sounds once you don a few authentic-looking pirate duds.

Need to brush up on yer pirate speak?  Try one of many pirate translators that are out there on the web.  You can translate any bit of ordinary verbiage instantly from ordinary English into pirate lingo without even having to think that hard.  This trick is fun for emails, texting or other communications you may be doing on “Talk Like a Pirate Day.”  Why would you invite someone to dinner in plain ol’ English when you can say “Please come home and have some of what crawled out o’ t’ bung hole with me“--now you are getting the idea.  There’s some serious fun to be had with pirate translators; don’t miss out on t’ action me buckos!”

Mark your calendars now for a somewhat silly and super fun celebration that should not be missed!

Getting Your Halloween Groove On: Musically Inspired Must Have Costumes!

  • September 10, 2012
  • Jenna Maxwell

When it comes to Halloween costumes, there are lots of sources of inspiration.  Historically, monsters, ghosts and demons were the favored looks that were sported during the celebration of All Hallows Eve.  Nowadays, however, costume choices run the gamut and the inspiration for them can come from many different sources.

One of the most popular places to go for fabulous costume inspiration is to dive into the world of music.  In recent years, some of the most creative and exciting costume looks have been borrowed from various pop stars, rock stars, and other musicians and entertainers.  In fact, some of the most infamous as well as notorious examples of somewhat outrageous costume ideas come from the world of music.  With so many infamous names in the music world both past and the present, costume inspiration may be as easy as playing one of your favorite tunes.

Blast from the Past:  Bringing back a musically inspired character from the past is a fun and exciting way to bring relive the memories as well and flavor of another era.  By dressing up as characters such as Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, KISS and an 1980’s version of Madonna, you can easily recreate an exciting look that has been truly inspired by the most exciting musical characters of yesteryear, bringing back with them all the retro fun that you remember from days gone by.  Don’t forget that you don’t have to be the musician to get your groove on this Halloween, either.  Dressing up as a disco King, a 1950’s jitterbug gal, or even a ‘60’s hippie is another way of using music from another era to inspire your costume choice!

All that’s Hip and New:  Today’s hottest musicians have created looks, trends and styles that are extremely unique as well as original, in addition to being very easy to recognize. Why not get in on the fun by recreating one of these exciting looks for yourself?  Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Hannah Montana, L’il Wayne and many others are easy characters that you can get into with a few simple accessories.

Basic Musician Costume How-to’s:  The easiest way to get into your musician or pop star look is by finding the right costume clothing or accessories to create a look that is essential to your character.   For example, Michael Jackson’s infamous red leather jacket and sequined glove would quickly get you into a “Thriller” groove.   Katy Perry looks can be easily achieved with colored wigs and vibrant colored costumes. For Katy inspiration, check out our Katy Clown how-to video where we show you how to create a Katy Clown look using inexpensive makeup.  Lady Gaga-inspired sunglasses, wigs and scarves will quickly get you into her amazing and unique look fast.

Recreating the original and exciting styles of renowned musicians from yesterday and today is an exciting as well as novel costume idea.  Check out our complete selection of musically inspired costumes and accessories to get into your best costume groove!

Tutu Cute and Tutu Sweet!

  • September 05, 2012
  • Jenna Maxwell

Like many of today’s hottest clothing trends, it all started on the fashion runway, with many of the top fashion designers showing tutu’s being worn as part of various fashion ensembles.  In many cases, the tutus were even the most featured part of the design itself.  Of course, it wasn’t long afterward that these tutu looks were finding their way into the closets of various celebrities.  Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry have all been seen around town as well as on stage donning these ballerina-inspired togs.  Celebrity kids have embraced the tutu trend year-round as well with the likes of Suri Cruise, Violet Affleck and Madonna’s adopted daughter, Mercy James, all being spotted wearing these big poofy skirts crafted from ruffles and tulle.  It seems that getting dressed up in a tutu isn’t just for dance class anymore; most any occasion seems to do.

Costumes are a great way to quickly get into the fashion action!  Adding a tutu to your best costume look is a quick and easy way to not only be right on trend, but to very simply add some personality, spunk as well as panache to your favorite costume look.  Most any costume character can be “tutu’d” up with relative ease.  Adding a tutu under a full skirt isn’t the only way to get this look, either.  In fact, these days, wearing the tutu on the outside of your outfit is just as cool as wearing one underneath the costume, in fact, these days this is almost preferred!  Show off those tutus!

Adding a tutu on top of a snug fitting, body-skimming costume adds a super feminine touch that really “girls up” a costume.  This can an be an especially fun accessory item to add to superhero looks which are often designed primarily for boys or are very sleek and form fitting by design.  Adding a tutu (or tutus!) on top of these costumes is a fantastic way to easily add a nice girly touch to your costume while personalizing it a bit at the same time.  These unique looks are not only right on trend with today’s hottest fashion styles, but the look is absolutely tutu adorable.

For you guys that really don’t want to be left out in the cold--feel free to participate in this tutu trend at will.  Halloween in particular usually means that “anything goes” and if you are brave enough to wear a tutu, we strongly suggest you do!

Check out our exciting new video demonstration on how to create a unique Batgirl look using fun makeup and accessories.  We’ve of course added some tutus to the classic Batgirl look, giving her a fun and modern twist and an oh so cute fashion flair!  Tutu’s are all the rage, you won’t want to miss out on adding one of these exciting accessories to your Halloween costume!  Tutu cute!

Nominee's for the 2012 Costume Hall of Shame

  • September 03, 2012
  • Jenna Maxwell

Today is Labor Day 2012. It's also the official start of the 2012 Halloween season! And to get us started off we thought we'd take a look at our top 10 nominee's for this year's Costume Hall of Shame! Every year at Halloween it happens.  Someone walks into a Halloween party wearing something a bit shocking as well as really, <whisper, whisper> attention getting.  You simply can’t believe they had the nerve to wear that!  Sometimes crude, sometimes funny, sometimes just downright strange--but it seems these really “out there” costumes are considered to be almost the norm anymore.   Maybe you enjoy wearing these types of costumes yourself, or perhaps you just enjoy the raucous laughter they bring at someone “else’s” expense.  It’s also possible that you have little appreciation for these obnoxious costumes at all.  No matter what your feelings about the really tacky, tasteless or even raunchy costumes are, you can bet they aren’t going anywhere.

Here’s our top 10 nominee’s for this year’s Costume Hall of Shame!

Tassle Twirling Tessie.  This chubby stripper costume is stuffed to the gills with humor, and a few dollar bills.  Don’t try a pole dance in this one.

The Finger.  This costume has a definite bad attitude.  Makes a very strong statement, without ever saying a word.

Anita Waxin. Getting rescued by this Baywatch babe could be a really hair-raising experience.

Beer Schlong.  A very useful costume that comes with an attached pouch that unzips to hold two full cans of beer! Awesome, practical, convenient and pretty funny!

Cheerleader Fat Suit.  Bringing sexy back in the most politically incorrect way imaginable.

Condom Costume.  Obnoxiously designed to protect and serve the most manly man.

Fireman costume.  This fearless firefighter is a very experienced hose handler.  This costume could be especially interesting in a super crowded room.

Ring Toss.  This costume could be considered another useful, multi-purpose ensemble.  No, he’s not an anatomical wonder, but when it comes to partying, it’s literally “game on”!   He’s got all the necessary equipment for instant laughs and fun.  “Ladies, step right up and be a winner!”

Snake Charmer.  He’s mesmerizing…he’s alluring...he’s hypnotizing.  Be careful though, ladies.  This snake may bite.

Ultimate Butt and Boobs.  This look may be recreating his ultimate fantasy, but wearing these accessories in mixed company may mean you spend a lot of time … alone.

Obnoxious. Shameless. Disgusting.  Reprehensible.  (But still… oh so funny!)  Check out these and other Halloween Costume Hall of Shame candidates in our Humorous Adult costume selection.
