Welcome May!

Welcome May!

If ever there were a month of the year that gets me excited, it’s got to be May.  To me May seems like the annual drum roll month that really sets a tone of anticipation and excitement for the upcoming warm-weather months, getting everyone excited about what is to come soon enough and that is summer! Today seems like a great day to get you pumped up about May…summer…and all the good things that come with it.

Star Wars Day:  Really?  A play on words taken from an infamous Star Wars line, has now become a full-fledged day for Star Wars fans everywhere to celebrate.  “May the Force Be With You,” sounds a lot like “May the fourth be with you”.  May the fourth is now the officially sanctioned day to dress up in your best Star Wars Costumes, watch Star Wars movies and have Star Wars themed costume parties.

Summer Movie Blockbuster Season: Did you see Iron Man 3 yet?  Iron Man 3 is the first of a whole series of heavy hitter movies that are set to hit the theatres this summer, all of which are bound to thrill and delight summer movie audiences everywhere. What do you have to look forward to?  Well, it’s time to get excited about “The Great Gatsby”(May 10), “Star Trek Into Darkness” (May 17), “Man of Steel” (June 14), “Monster’s University” (June 21), “Fast and Furious 6” (May 24), “World War Z”  (June 21), “The Wolverine” (July 26).  And trust me…this list is just the beginning.  If you are a movie fan, this could be your summer!

Cinco De Mayo (May 5):  This south of the border sentimental favorite has kind of become the Mexican version of St. Patrick’s Day.  Yes, it’s a great excuse to party…Mexican style, of course!  Believe it or not, outside of Puebla, Mexico this holiday is celebrated in Mexico about at the same level Arbor Day is celebrated here in the U.S.  Not a huge deal, folks, but if you need an excuse to wear your serape and sombrero while eating lots of Mexican food (my personal fave) today is the day!

Mother’s Day (May 12):  This is a holiday designed to pay tribute to as well as to honor the mother’s of the world. Take this chance to thank your mom for her endless love and support because after all, you have no bigger fan in the world other than your beloved mom.  As for you mom’s out there--what woman doesn’t enjoy being queen for the day?  Enjoy the extra love and attention as for most of us this sort of thing only happens once a year.

Memorial Day (May 27): Memorial Day culminates the first three-day weekend of the warm weather months, and for most, Memorial Day kicks off the summer season.  (Even though technically Memorial Day happens in the spring.)  Memorial Day is a revered holiday that is set aside to honor those brave men and women that lost their lives while serving in the U.S. Armed forces.  The many freedoms we enjoy today can be attributed to those willing to fight and make the ultimate sacrifice in order to preserve these privileges we hold so dear.  Take a moment to show your gratitude and reverence on this very special holiday!

There is so much to get excited about and to enjoy this month.  Get ready to welcome in May!

Iron Man: Ironclad Reasons Why You Should See It

Iron Man 3

May 3rd is opening day for the latest installment of Iron Man.  Iron Man 3 rings the opening bell, kicking off the summertime blockbuster movie season. This film, based on the Marvel comic book series, promises to give moviegoers plenty to get excited about.  Here are a few reasons why we think you should get out and see Iron Man 3!

Robert Downey Jr.:  Okay, so his acting skills are completely unsurpassed and his edgy bad boy image is kind of a turn on.  Frankly, Robert Downey Jr. simply rocks this Iron man gig as he reprises his role as the billionaire playboy, Tony Stark.  Who says action flicks are just for the guys?  Not with this much raw machismo as well as eye candy like this.  I don’t even care that Gwyneth Paltrow apparently claimed that RDJ was afraid of the Iron Man suit and thus called him wimpy. He’s still a complete badass in my book.

The Story:  The plotline in Iron Man 3 picks up shortly after the events that were depicted in “The Avengers” occurred.  Tony Stark clearly is deeply affected by some of these circumstances and in Iron Man 3, Tony Stark’s mental state seems somewhat fragile as he teeters on the edge of having post traumatic stress induced panic attacks.

Extremis:  Extremis, invented by Dr. Maya Hansen, is one of those crazy inventions we just love, love, love to see both in comic books and the films that come out of them.  Basically, Extremis is a substance that once injected into someone, has the ability to help the body to regenerate itself and it promotes a turbo kind of healing that works like nobody’s biz…well, most of the time anyway.  Check out some of the details on Extremis here:

Costumes:  Okay, around here we call them costumes, but in Iron Man 3, they are just more cool suits with groovy toys for Tony Stark, all as part of his new-fangled Iron Man get ups.  There are even ways for Tony to control his suits when he himself is not actually wearing them.  Interesting…

Iron Patriot:  The U.S. Government has given a bit of a makeover to the former alter ego of Iron Man 2, namely War Machine.  There’s always room for another fantastic hero, right? Decked out purposely in red, white and blue the Iron Patriot completely lives up to his name.  Check out the Iron Patriot in action:

Halfway to Halloween

We LOVE Halloween, and we know you do, too.  Halloween has propelled itself to being the second most popular holiday celebrated in this country and with good reason.  Who doesn’t love getting all dressed up in costumes?  Who doesn’t love candy?  Who doesn’t love parties?  Who doesn’t love all sorts of scary and spooky fun?  There is one downside to Halloween, however and sadly it is this.  Halloween only comes once a year!  Bleh!  We think that once a year is just too infrequent to bask in all the joys of Halloween so we are stepping it up a bit and causing a little spooky revolution.  April 30 is hereby noted as an important milestone and we hope that you will celebrate it with us.  April 30th is officially “Halfway To Halloween!”

Halfway to Halloween is the perfect opportunity for you Halloween/Horror/Costume fans out there to have some serious Halloween-style fun when it’s not even Halloween. Why wait until October the 31st?  A springtime Halfway to Halloween celebration can have some virtues of it’s own. Here are some of our best costume ideas if you are thinking (as we do) that celebrating “Halfway to Halloween” might be the greatest springtime idea ever!

Monster Mash:  Invite your friends over for a Horror-lover’s fest. Dress up as your favorite monsters, including zombies, vampires, werewolves and creepy ghosts.  Really get into it and have contests for the scariest look, the most complete transformation and the most original horror costume.

Photo Contest:  You and your friends can celebrate “Halfway To Halloween” by using social media apps.  Get into your best costume look --really go all out with makeup and details-- and then take some really groovy pictures of yourself.  Post your best photos on Facebook or Instagram.  Hash-tag your pics #halfwaytohalloween!

Springtime Costume Party:  You can skip the horror stuff and save it for later and instead have a spring/summer costume party that is going to definitely spell F-U-N.

  • Throw a Hawaiian-themed luau or BBQ for you and all your friends.  Have all your guests wear leis, grass skirts, Hawaiian shirts, etc.
  • Kids of all ages will really dig having a superhero themed party--invite all the guests to dress up as their favorite superhero and play competitive games focused around the superhero characters.
  • Have a “tween”-age girl at your house?  Well this age group is going to love any dress up party with a pop-rock dress up theme and lots of music to go with it.
  • Grown-ups or older teenagers will really get into a “dress as a celebrity” themed party.

Springtime Costumes:  There are lots of really cool costumes that have more of a spring or summertime vibe to them.  Why not give some of these warmer weather looks a try now?  Springtime costume get-togethers seem like the perfect time to try some of our more summery looks like bugs, flowers, fruits, veggies, garden gnomes and fairies, just to name a few.

A great holiday isn’t always around when you need it, so why wait for Halloween when NOW is the perfect time for getting into a great costume and having some serious warm-weather fun.  Happy Halfway to Halloween!

Cinco De Mayo: Celebrating South Of The Border Style

Cinco De Mayo

Hola fanáticos del traje! Si quieres aprender un poco sobre el Cinco de Mayo, has venido al lugar correcto!  Whoa, whoa, whoa and my sincerest apologies.  All this thinking about Cinco de Mayo, however has really gotten me excited, even to the point that I am mistakenly writing this blog in Spanish.  Let me start this again.  Hello costume fans, if you want to learn a little about Cinco de Mayo, you’ve come to the right place!  You don’t have to be from Mexico to really get into the spirit and fun that can be found by celebrating this exciting holiday that hails from our Mexican neighbors to the south.  Here are a few of the Cinco de Mayo basics:

The History Behind Cinco de Mayo:  Once upon a time back in 1862, a very powerful French army decided to head to Mexico and fight it’s way through the country down into Mexico City, where it was their intent to try and force the Mexican government to pay up on some old outstanding debts.  The French Army was very well equipped, superbly trained, and early on in their battles in Mexico they had been pretty much destroying all that came into their path.  Here’s where things get interesting, folks.  When the French army hit a town called Puebla (on May the 5th of course) a very surprising thing happened.  Although the Mexican soldiers in Puebla were largely untrained, had few battle skills and were also equipped with some pretty lousy equipment, somehow, quite miraculously, this scrappy army of novices was able to defeat the elite French army and drive them out of Puebla.  Now that’s cause for celebration hombres!

Cinco De Mayo Today:  A lot of people here in the U.S. are confused about Cinco De Mayo and mistakenly assume that this holiday is Mexican Independence Day.  No, no, no, no mis amigos!  Mexican Independence Day actually happens on September 16--we must keep our holidays straight!  Cinco de Mayo is a holiday dedicated to celebrating the battle win that happened that glorious day in Puebla, Mexico. Interestingly enough, Cinco de Mayo isn’t a huge deal down in Mexico outside of the town of Puebla.  Mexican people now living in the U.S. however, have brought the fun along with the true south of the border flavor that is associated with Cinco de Mayo, into the U.S. and this holiday has now been fully embraced by many.

For some of us, Cinco de Mayo may just be another reason to eat fabulous Mexican food while downing a few Margaritas.  For others, Cinco de Mayo has become a celebration of an event in past history that brings with it great pride, as well as it being an opportunity to share Mexican customs and culture with the masses. Fantástico!

Getting into the spirit of Cinco de Mayo is pretty easy.  From sombreros to maracas, May the 5th is your chance to embrace some of the more exciting elements of Mexican culture and really get in on what promises to be a really exciting celebration. Don’t miss out on the Cinco de Mayo fun! Olé!

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

April ShowersWe have all heard the children’s verse that goes like this, “April showers bring May flowers.” Hey, I want flowers and green things blooming in the springtime just like everyone else does, but sometimes, day after day of rain can make the kids start to bounce off the walls a little! When the kids are dying to get outside, but Mother Nature has other plans, (like conjuring up spring flowers, of course) here are some great ideas to keep the kids from going completely stir crazy!

Get Out And Get In it!  We’ve all heard the saying, “When you can’t beat them, join them!”  Well, the same goes for rain.  If you’ve got the proper gear, a little rain can be fun for kids to play in. (Big kids, too!) Put on slickers, galoshes, grab an umbrella and head out to do a little good time puddle jumping!  Need a hands-free headgear alternative?  A super silly, but uber rain-friendly umbrella hat is a fun option for anyone who wants to play in the rain but still leave their hands free to do other stuff.  Plus, this hat is just plain silly which adds to the fun of playing in the rain.

Make A Production Out Of It!  Haul out those old Halloween costumes and accessories from last year and put your kids to work on some fun at-home theatrics.  They can create and act out a play or homemade production of their own design.  When they put their minds to it, you would be amazed at how creative, dramatic, humorous and innovative kids can be.  This activity will also potentially keep them busy for hours!  Your kids can invite the other kids in the neighborhood to see the finished show when it’s ready for opening.  Younger kids will have fun just “dressing up” in the old costumes and getting into various characters by acting them out.

You Can Do Magic!  Teach your kids some simple card tricks or other easy to learn magic.  Kids are absolutely fascinated by anything to do with magic.  Learning the behind the scenes magician's secrets is something they will really get into while at the same time they will be amazing, astonishing and impressing their friends. Simple magic tricks or illusions are really quite easy to learn.  When your kids have enough tricks up their sleeve for a whole magic show you can gear them up with a magician’s costume and other cool magic accessories that will add some professional polish to their magic act.

Search Fer Ye Pirate Booty!  Kids love to play and pretend anything that has to do with pirates.  It’s fun to get into pirate costumes and even more fun to try out a little of the pirate lingo in their playtime conversation.  Hide some pirate treasure (play coins, play jewelry) etc. around the house for your kids to find.  If you are really into this, you can even create a pirate’s treasure map to guide them straight to the loot!  They will have a blast trying to figure the pirate mystery out!

Bring The Sunshine IN!  Who says you can’t bring a little island flavor indoors on a rainy day?  Plan to have an indoor Hawaiian luau, right smack in your living room.  Decorate your space with palm tree cutouts and other island themed décor.  Dress for your luau in leis, grass skirtsand Hawaiian shirts.  Rain?  What rain?  You and your kids will feel like you are on a tropical vacation! (Well, almost...)

Rainy days don’t have to spell disaster, nor do they need to put a damper on your children’s good times. With a little bit of imagination and creativity, a rainy day could very easily be your best day!

Tax Day: It's Just So Darn Taxing!

  • April 10, 2013

It's Tax Time!

April 15th, the most dreaded deadline of all deadlines.  It’s a day probably only accountants or H&R Block can love.  Tax Day is sometimes (okay, almost always) filled with anxiety, stress and financial pressure.  Have you filed your tax return yet?  Are you freaking out?  If any of these feelings are with you, trust me, you are not alone.  Tax Day is no picnic for any of us.  If you are one of the luckier ones, your problems may be as simple as asking the question, “How much is my refund going to be?”  If you are not so lucky, you may be experiencing a bad case of the “OH NO! OH NO! I OWE!” syndrome. In this case, it may be time for some deep breathing and meditation.  You will get through this.

If you are having serious issues with your taxes or tax-related stresses, sorry I probably can’t help you.  This is a costume blog, not a financial blog.  That said, you may enjoy a few of our tax day survival suggestions that may make getting through these trying times just a smidge easier.  A sense of humor never hurt anyone.

Counting Down:  There is an actual Tax Day Countdown clock.  If you need to have a little extra pressure put on you in order to make you do things (uh, say for example, your taxes), you might find this Tax Day Countdown Clock helpful.

I actually found this clock rather annoying as it gave me ten times more tax related anxiety simply by just watching this baby count down, but that’s just me.

Freebies:  The bright side of Tax Day is that there are a lot of retailers and restaurants out there that are actually taking pity on the taxpayers of America and offering up some pretty nifty (and in some cases, tasty) freebies.  Here are some of them and we’re betting you will find even more in your own local neighborhood!

  • Arby’s:  Free curly fries or potato cakes at participating Arby’s restaurants on April 15.
  • Boston Market:  Get 2 rib meals for just $10.40 (get it?) on tax day.
  • Cinnabon:  Get 2 free Cinnabon Bites on April 15, while supplies last.
  • Sonic:  Drinks and slushes for 50% off at participating restaurants on April 15th.  Go ahead--drown your sorrows!

Manage Your Stress:  Still feeling stressed out?  Try taking a walk or get outside for a while. Sometimes the simple act of walking away from your pile of forms, documents and receipts and taking a short break will make you feel better.

Uncle Sam Wants YOU!  Yes, he does want your money, but he also wants you to have some fun.  What could be a better way to get even with the big guy than by putting together an IRS-themed costume party or get together?  Paying Uncle Sam isn’t fun, but dressing up as him IS.  Be sure to check out our how-to video for easy step-by-step instructions on how to put together your own fun Uncle Sam look.

Need some other super fun costume ideas to help you celebrate April 15th?

  • You’re Fired Wig!  Dressing up as Donald Trump is super easy when you have his signature “do”. He may have actually had to pay more taxes than you! (You're Fired Wig)
  • Gold Digger:  Hey, it might a solution for next year? (Gold Digger Costume)
  • Robin Hood: You have to have some degree of respect for someone who steals from the rich and gives money to the poor.  (And who isn’t feeling the pinch a little right now?) (Robin Hood)
  • Hundred Dollar Bill:  If you don’t have one, why not just “be” one?  It might offer a small bit of tax day solace. (Hundred Dollar Bill Costume)
  • Lady Luck:  Perhaps we all could use a little of this right now. (Lady Luck)
  • Dress as your Accountant (Nerd costume):  This get up probably doesn’t look exactly like your financial planner but it bears a shocking resemblance to mine, so I am throwing it in. (Financial Planner Costume)

April 15th needn’t be the worst day of the year.  Perhaps it will even surprise you with an unexpectedly large refund coming your way.  In any case, breathe and stay calm.  It’s all going to be all right.

“Isn’t it appropriate that the month of the tax begins with April Fool’s Day and ends with cries of ‘May Day!’?”-- Robert Knauerhase

Horrible Hannibal

Horribal Hannibal

Around these parts, it’s kinda hard to find a monster that really stands up and gets our attention.  We’ve seen them all.  Yes, through the years we’ve seen some pretty gnarly characters that have been unbelievably scary.  There is one guy, however, who likely has sent more than one utterly ice-cold shiver down your spine.  His name is Hannibal Lecter.  This past week on NBC, Hannibal Lecter returned to the screen to thrill and terrify audiences once again, this time in a new television series entitled Hannibal.  Made by Brian Fuller, Hannibal takes the audience back to the early days when Dr. Hannibal Lecter was still a practicing psychiatrist and was working with FBI agent Will Graham, tracking serial killers.   The relationship will evolve a great deal throughout time obviously, because we do know that eventually Dr. Lecter will become Will Graham’s most notorious enemy.  One thing you can count on is for certain; Hannibal Lecter is reliably evil, and in Hannibal he will deliver.

The Scoop:  I love these hot new shows that start up very conveniently just as many of the fall season television programs have had their season finale.  (Pay attention you Walking Dead Fans!)  With thirteen full episodes coming, all you horror/mystery fans out there have plenty to look forward to.  What could be scarier than someone who is arguably almost like the devil in disguise?

The Stars:  British actor Hugh Dancy is set to play the part of Will Graham.  Although clearly having the big shoes of Anthony Hopkins to try and fill, Mads Mikkelsen will play the role of Hannibal.  Mads has already played the parts of some pretty evil bad boys, including the James Bond villain Le Chiffre in Casino Royale.  For this role, Mads has stated that he tried not to equate Hannibal with any mental illness, but literally tried to envision what it would be like to be Satan.  Whoa, now that’s really, really bad.  Let’s see how he delivers!  Martin Fishbourne also makes his return to television in the role of Jack Crawford, the FBI’s head of Behavioral Sciences.  Gillian Anderson (Dana Scully-X-files) will also have a recurring role in Hannibal.  She will be playing the part of Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier, who is Hannibal Lecter’s therapist.  Things are definitely getting interesting!

“A census taker once tried to test me.  I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.”

Here’s a peek at the Hannibal trailer in case you missed the first episode. Hannibal airs Thursday nights on NBC.  Don’t miss it!

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Baseball is Here!

We’ve been thinking about it, and there’s a good chance that you have been, too.  The fantastic, illustrious, exciting game of great American baseball!!  What is arguably the best All-American sport ever had its official opening day on Easter Sunday, which can mean only one thing folks; we are now in baseball season- full swing!  (Pun intended.)  Here’s why there’s plenty to get excited about this baseball season.

Games-a-plenty:  What other sport out there will offer its fans something like 162 games in one season?  If, when it comes to baseball, enough is never enough, then you oughta be one happy sports fan.

Food and Beverages:  At a baseball game, beer just tastes better, ask anyone.  You’ve got to try the nachos, the wings and of course, peanuts and crackerjacks are almost mandatory.  And then there are the Hot Dogs. (Can you hear angels singing?)  We think Humphrey Bogart said it best.  “A Hot Dog at a ballpark is better than a steak at the Ritz”.  We concur.

Good Ol’ Rivalry’s:  Baseball fans are extremely loyal to their teams and also will hold long-standing grudges against their team’s most diabolical rivals, even if the home team continues to lose.  Holding fast and loyal to your beloved team is part of the baseball fan mentality.

Smarter Than An Umpire:  Aren’t we all?  It’s amazing how a loyal baseball fan has crystal clear vision and simply sees things that apparently the umps do not.  A loyal baseball fan is not the least bit afraid to inform the umpire when he has made another mistake.

No Rule Book Necessary:  One of the best reasons to love baseball is how completely fan-friendly and basically uncomplicated it is to understand.  The most green of novices will be able to comprehend the basics of baseball and will get it enough to easily enjoy the game.

Amazing Souvenirs:  How many times have you gone to a football or basketball game and come home with the game ball or even had the possibility of obtaining one?  Baseball does offer the unique opportunity to retrieve the ball that was likely used to hit the most epic of hits of this beloved game--the home run.

Best Fans Ever:  Baseball fans are indeed loyal to a fault. We’ve all heard of baseball lovers whose team hasn’t won anything; but somehow the fans remain undeterred and love their team nonetheless.  They love them through the losing.  They love them even more when they are winning!  No cheerleaders are ever necessary--a die-hard baseball fan knows how to cheer for his team, even when they are down.

All The Time In The World:  A baseball game lasts until the very last inning is over and is not ever dictated by a clock.  With no time constraints placed on it, a baseball game often has a much more relaxed environment because of it.  Baseball ends when baseball ends.  Plus, there’s always plenty of time for more snacks!

Legendary Ballparks:  Many baseball parks are almost bigger than life and parts of American history.  There is nothing like a game in a place like Fenway Park or Wrigley Field to get a baseball fan’s heart pumping.

From that first pitch thrown out in early spring to the playoff games that hit sometime in October, baseball will truly always be one of America’s greatest pastimes.

“Playing baseball is not real life.  It’s a fantasy world.  It’s a dream come true.”

What's Great About April

What's Great About April

There’s something completely magical that happens when the calendar changes over to April.  Yes, April means that it is officially time to pack winter away until next year.  But April also brings with it many fun and exciting things that you are definitely going to look forward to.  It’s absolutely time to start filling up your calendar and let the good times roll!

Nurture Nature:  April is the first full month of springtime, so for many, it’s the first chance to really embrace all that’s good about what can be a glorious season filled with freshness, new life, and a whole lot more sunshine! (And perhaps just a few April showers…)  April is a great time to spruce up your yard, plant a veggie garden and enjoy the still cooler, sunny days. There are even a couple of cool nature-oriented holidays in April that you will not want to miss out on:

  • April 22nd-Earth Day-Earth Day was designed to rekindle awareness of the environment and the ways in which each of us can help to protect our natural resources.  You can get into Earth Day by going to an Earth Day festival near you, or just take the time to get educated and do something as simple as planting a garden.
  • April 27th-Arbor Day-Arbor Day is a special and unique holiday designed for the specific purpose of tree planting.  You can celebrate Arbor Day in many ways, including of course, the most obvious one--planting a tree!  Other ideas? Go on a hike and learn about trees that are indigenous to your area, or there’s lots to read to your kids about trees.

April Silly Stuff:  April starts off with April Fools’ Day--the officially sanctioned holiday on which it is approved (or even encouraged) to play pranks or mischievous tricks on your friends.  What you may not know is that April has a few other lesser known special days that although may seem a little strange, you may want to participate in!

  • April 6th-International Pillow Fight Day-You think I am making this up, don’t you?  On April 6th, believe it or not there will be organized pillow fighting throughout the world.
  • April 16th-National Wear Pajamas To Work Day- You know you’ve always wanted to do it, now here’s the perfect excuse to wear your pajamas to work and slave the day away in your jammies and slippers--with coffee and a doughnut nearby! This might be your most productive workday ever--unless you take it way too seriously and spend the day half-dozing. Full details here: http://www.nationalwearyourpajamastoworkday.com
  • April 20th-Husband Appreciation Day-You might not have even known that this day existed, which demonstrates all the more why it may be needed.  Show your hubby how much you love and appreciate him!
  • April 20th-Record Store Day- Yes, there is a holiday for this and since it ironically falls in conjunction with Husband Appreciation Day, are you thinking what I am thinking?  Great possibilities here!  Additionally, there may be some kids out there in today’s day of instantaneous music downloads who don’t even know what a record store is.  For this reason, the record store itself might make a great field trip. More info here: http://www.recordstoreday.com/home

April--Just Plain Cool!

  • Mud Runs or Obstacle Course Races-These exciting and fun-filled races are popping up all over the nation.  These events are filled with military-style obstacles; ginormous mud puddles, and frequently have lots and lots of water involved.  You may get dirty--very, very dirty, in fact, but it’s all in the name of good fun.  Many folks do these races as part of a team, sometimes dressing their team up in crazy costumes, accessories or even hats as they run the race, adding to the team spirit. I actually did one of these mud runs last year and literally ran side by side with a whole pack of Village People look-alikes.  It was the most filthy, dirty, insane good time, ever.
  • Music Festivals-April starts music festival and concert season.  One of the most infamous music and art festivals is Coachella, which runs April 12-14.  Several stages will be set up with continual live music throughout the event. Coachella (and other music festivals) are however, about much more than music.  These events highlight fashion as well.  Things you may want to consider for your music festival experience:  Glow in the dark anything, face and body paints, tie-dye shirts, and other various hippie styled accessories. Other music festivals are known to embrace the quirky, vintage-innovative Steampunk style fashions.  Don’t leave home without the right gear!
  • Baseball Season-Let us not forget that April brings with it the opening of baseball season.  From the best tasting hot dogs you’ve ever had, to that blessed sounding “smack” of bat meeting ball--there’s nothing like baseball.  You just can’t beat it for springtime sports fun, as it will always be considered the greatest All-American game.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation--What You Need To Know

  • April 01, 2013

G.I. Joe: Retailiation

The second installment of the G.I. Joe franchise hit theatres this past weekend.  With all the hoopla surrounding the film, including an extended dose of media attention due to a somewhat disappointing delay in release, moviegoers are bound to be anxious to see what the Joe’s can finally deliver!  G.I. Joe: Retaliation has all the ingredients of a Spring Break blockbuster.   Before you grab your bucket of popcorn and settle in for what should be a wild, action-filled explosive ride, here’s a few things you need to know!

Hold On…and On.  G.I. Joe: Retaliation was actually supposed to come out last year.  The film was set for release in August of 2012.  Thus, any die-hard Joe fans have been waiting…and waiting!  Paramount decided at some point that the movie needed to be converted into 3-D so that it could be distributed internationally to a wider audience.  In countries such as China and Russia, 3-D technology is hugely popular.

So You Think You Can…Direct?   Jon M. Chu known mostly for his recent dance-themed films directed this latest chapter of the G.I. Joe saga.  Although there has been some skepticism about what Mr. Chu will bring to the franchise, his different perspective is bound to put a new spin on the Joe’s.  Some characters will be portrayed a bit differently and some of the characters from the original film will not be returning.  Jon Chu wanted to take the sequel and the Joe’s in a different direction--let’s see what he’s got.

Heroic Return:  Some of the most favored characters from the first G.I. Joe film will be indeed returning for your viewing pleasure.  Channing Tatum will be reprising his role as Duke, while Ray Park will be playing Snake Eyes.  Lee Byung-hun will be back as Storm Shadow. You can however, say goodbye to Rachel Nichols and Sienna Miller, as neither of them will be returning for retaliation.

Rock The Rock!  There’s nothing like THE ROCK (Dwayne Johnson) to inject some powerful mojo into an action-laden film.  In G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Mr. Rock plays the lead G.I. Joe, Roadblock, one of the most key players in the G.I. Joe franchise.  And as if that’s not enough…there’s more! Fans will surely die hard for Bruce Willis as he enters the Joe cast to play the role of General Joseph Colton.   Willis leads the Joe’s in their battle against the Cobra’s.  The Rock?  Bruce Willis?  The Joe’s just got really interesting.

G.I. Joe: The toys are back in action!  Much of the G.I. Joe toy line was pulled from the shelves when the Joe sequel release was delayed.  These G.I. Joe toys are now officially in stores and back in action, just in time to correlate with the G.I. Joe film release.
