Dorothy Costumes, Tin Man Costumes, Cowardly Lion Costumes and Scarecrow Costumes! Back in 1939, the musical fantasy story originally written by L. Frank Baum came to theatres and was known as The Wizard Of Oz. Originally a box office flop, The Wizard Of Oz still was nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture. The film lost the best picture title to Gone With The Wind, however, and probably would have disappeared for good except that in about 1956 repeated telecasts reintroduced the film to audiences. This time around the concept of the Wizard Of Oz obviously struck a chord with audiences because over the ensuing years the movie rapidly became a family classic and is now considered to be one of the top 10 movies of all time. The unique cast of characters is part of the charm of the story. The evil Wicked Witch of the West with her bright green face is the main villainess of the tale. Dorothy, a farm girl from Kansas and her recent acquisition of the Ruby Slippers are off to see the Wizard, following a path that is made from yellow bricks. Dorothy's only desire is to find her way back to Kansas with her little dog Toto. On her journey, Dorothy encounters a Scarecrow who joins her in order to request a brain from the great Wizard. Not too soon afterward, a Tin Man is found rusting in the forest, and once brought back into full movement with oil, he decides to take part in the sojourn and desires to request a heart from the great and powerful Oz. Lastly, a Cowardly Lion is discovered cowering in the forest, afraid even of his own tail. He joins the group as well, thinking that if he can get up the nerve, asking for some courage could only help him in his Lion affairs.
