Creating a Costume Look inspired by Arya Stark of Game of Thrones

Are you as obsessed with HBO's "Game of Thrones" as we are? With the popularity of HBO's epic fantasy drama only growing, it's very easy to see why the characters from Game of Thrones are bonding with the masses. When it comes to picking a character look to inspire you for Halloween or even for Cosplay, the vast repertoire of colorful personas found in Game of Thrones offer many fun and exciting choices. One of our favorite Game of Thrones characters is Arya Stark. Arya is young, but she's truly wise beyond her years and has completely rebelled against the proper lifestyle that has been laid out for her. Arya wants little to do with the feminine arts and rather than sewing, singing or dancing, she'd much prefer to be outdoors exploring or even having a fierce sword fight.

If you are looking to recreate a costume look that captures the essence of the spirited Arya, you've come to the right place! By following our easy step-by-step instructions, you will be well on your way to an exciting costume look that has been inspired by Arya Stark.

How to Create a Game of Thrones Arya Stark Inspired Look

Follow These Steps to Create this Look

Step One:  Begin with a clean and dry face. Using a foundation that closely matches your skin tone, blend the makeup onto the skin using a damp sponge applicator. For our featured look, we have used Celebre Foundation in Extra Fair. (#DD396)

Step Two:  Once you have your foundation applied, next apply an eye shadow base to the eyelids using a brush or a sponge tip applicator and blend this in well. We have used E.Y.E. cream by Mehron in Creamy Beige. (#DD342)

Step Three:  Using Mehron's Shado-liner in Taupe, (#DD139) blend in this deeper shade close to the lashline in order to create a shadowy look. Using this same color, blend this shade in below the lower lashline as well.

Step Four:  Using a dark brown eye pencil (#DD01) and short, feathery strokes, deepen the eyebrows and thicken them as desired. Arya's eyebrows are quite dark and thick.

Step Five:  Arya has a natural youthful glow so a little blush on the apples of the cheeks will give you a similar look. We have used Rosewood Cheek color by Mehron. (#DD425) Try to keep the color fairly light, natural and very well blended in and primarily on the apples of the cheeks.

Step Six:  Using a small brush and LIP cream in Natural (#DD103), apply a light coat of color to the lips.

Step Seven:  Using a damp sponge applicator and Dk. Egyptian foundation by Mehron, (#DD400) contour the face and give it liberal shadowing and shading. Arya's look is a little bit rough and tumble, while at the same time being anything but clean. The idea is to give the face a bit of a dirty look while at the same time adding some dramatic shading.

Step Eight:  Using Colorset Powder, (#DD321) lightly dust the entire face with setting powder in order to set the makeup and make it much more long lasting.

Step Nine:  If your natural hair is similar to the close-cropped brunette style of Arya's, then you are in luck! The rest of you are going to have to consider wearing a wig. Arya often tries to disguise herself as a boy, so we have chosen a short wig style to perpetuate this look for our Arya. (#GC4934) The easiest way to wear a wig is to pull your own natural hair out of the way and then put on a wig cap to keep your own hair in place so that it won't show beneath the wig. Once the wig is placed on the head, you can style it however you like. Keep in mind that Arya isn't much into grooming so it's okay to keep her hair a little bit on the messy side.

Now that the hair and makeup is complete, it's time to get dressed in an appropriate costume look. Although there are many medieval or renaissance period costume looks that would be easily adapted to Arya, we have chosen the Medieval Mercenary costume (#FM68201) and Renaissance Boots (#HA58) to help get our version of Arya ready for adventure and action. She also has her favorite sword at the ready! (#DG14132) Arya Stark. She's stubborn, independent and definitely a wild spirit, but she has proven over and over again that she is a true force to be reckoned with. You are absolutely going to want to add this feisty and headstrong girl to your Game of Thrones ensemble this Halloween!
