Creating a Sally Costume Look

When it comes to memorable, not to mention slightly bizarre characters, no one has brought them more effectively to life than the imaginative director, Tim Burton. One of his most classic films to ever hit the silver screen has to be the truly epic "The Nightmare Before Christmas," which introduced audiences to characters such as Jack Skellington and his ragdoll friend, Sally. These truly amazing characters are popular Halloween costume favorite looks for obvious reasons, but putting any of these animated favorites into a makeup look may seem a bit daunting at first glance. Sally is a ragdoll, pieced together and animated by Dr. Finklestein. Sally is quirky, restless and has a wicked crush on Jack Skellington, Halloween Town's notorious Pumpkin King. We have put together some very easy, step-by-step instructions to help you create an amazing "Sally" look that is very much inspired by this beloved character from one of the most classic Tim Burton films of all time.

How to Create a Sally Costume Look

Follow These Steps to Create this Look

Step One:  Using Mehron's Paradise Makeup in Teal, (#DD503) add a little bit of water to the paint and using a large brush, cover the entire face and neck area with the teal color. Avoid the areas immediately surrounding the eyes as well as the lips as you will be painting these areas with another color later on.

Step Two:  Paint the eyelid area, up to just below the eyebrows with Mehron's Paradise makeup in white (#DD505), diluted with a little water. Using a small brush and the same color, line carefully below the lower lashes.

Step Three:  Using a very small amount of the same white color, add some highlights on the cheeks, chin, forehead and nose. Blend in well.

Step Four:  Using Mehron's Cheek Cream in Shell Pink, (#DD140) dab a very small amount of the cheek color onto the apples of the cheeks.

Step Five:  Using Mehron's Paradise makeup in Red (#DD501) and a small brush, paint the eyebrows red. Add this same color to the lips.

Step Six:  Using Mehron's Paradise makeup in Black, (#DD489) thin this color with a little water and using a thin liner brush, line along the top lash line.

Step Seven:  Next, apply a pair of false eyelashes (#EA61) to the upper lash line. Apply a thin stream of eyelash glue to the edge of the lash and then very carefully apply the lash to the lash line, pressing gently until adhered. Use tweezers for this process if desired.

Step Eight:  Paint on faux lower eyelashes using a thin brush and the black Paradise paint thinned with a little water. Add "stitch lines" extending out from Sally's mouth and along the side of her head. Add crosshatch lines at random intervals to create the look of stitches. Repeat this technique on the neckline area as well and any other place you wish to add a stitched up look.

Now it's time to assemble the rest of your Sally Skellington look! To finish off our Sally, we have used the Sally Costume, (#DG11834) which comes complete with a whimsical red yarn wig to top off the Sally ragdoll look to upmost perfection. Our Sally has found her beloved Jack Skellington, who is clearly dressed to the nines in his costume (#DG5761) and is now ready to go make what becomes a terrible mess of the most favorite holiday celebrated inside of Christmas Town.
