Creating a 'Despicable Me' Minion Costume Look
Unless you've been living under a rock, you already know who the Minions are. These adorable little yellow creatures that look like lemon Tic-Tacs wearing thick goggles are everywhere these days! Around Halloween time, it may seem like the world is experiencing a bona fide Minion invasion! For the most part, Minions have but one purpose, to serve the most reprehensible and truly evil master they can find! If you are looking for a quick and easy solution to transforming yourself into one of these cute, banana-loving assistants, you've come to the right place. Follow our simple, step-by-step instructions and before you know it, you will be sporting an undeniable citron glow along with a mischievous Minion smile!
Here are the items we're using to create this look:
Follow These Steps to Create this Look
Step One: Begin your makeup application with a clean and moisturized face. The first step is to apply a white cream makeup (#DD05) around the eyes. Once your Minion goggles are in place, this white makeup helps your eyes to stand out more, giving you more of that authentic wide-eyed, cartoon-y Minion look. Using a small sponge applicator or brush, gently apply the white makeup on the eyelids, above the eyes and finish the application by applying the white below the eyes, so the entire eye socket area is covered. Close your eyes and gently dust the white makeup with a setting powder to set the makeup and prevent smudging. We have used Colorset Powder (#DD321) to accomplish this.
Step Two: To create a decidedly yellow Minion face, we have used Mehron's Fantasy Fx makeup in Yellow (#DD215). This high quality, highly pigmented makeup comes in an easy to use, tube dispenser. Squeeze out a little bit of makeup onto a plastic plate. Using a slightly damp sponge applicator spread the makeup over the entire face, avoiding any areas that will eventually be covered with your costume. Don't forget to apply makeup to the neck area in the areas that will show underneath your costume. Let the makeup dry and apply a second coat as necessary to create the desired color strength and opacity.
Step Three: Using a black cream makeup (#DD05) and a skinny brush, paint a smile line out from the corners of the mouth. A downward turn to the line will make your Minion appear to be sad while an upward turn will give him a happier look. A straighter line evokes a more neutral feeling. Have fun and give your Minion his own personality and unique touch.
Step Four: Put on your Minion cap (if applicable) and position the attached hair as desired.
Step Five: Next, complete your Minion face with the necessary pair of Minion goggles (#RU36720)! The strap on the Minion goggles is adjustable to give yourself a custom fit around the head. The goggles attach easily with using the hook apparatus in the back.
Step Six: Now it's time to get dressed in your favorite Minion character costume. Our male Minion model is sporting the look of Minion Kevin (#RU810464) and getting ready to dive into one of his favorite snacks--a banana! Now when have you ever known a minion to be alone? His lady friend Minion, wearing the Despicable Me Lady Minion costume, joins minion, Kevin. (#RU887200) Her pet pup got in on the minion action by wearing the adorable Minion Pet Costume. (#RU887800)
MINIONS: These hilarious and impulsive beings get very excited over the simplest of things. Since Minions are seemingly everywhere these days, if you can't escape them, you may as well join them. Have fun creating one of these truly memorable and exciting costume looks based on the very popular characters from the computer-animated films, Despicable Me, and Minions.
Minion Trivia: Did you know? - Minionese (the language of the Minions) was created just for the Despicable Me Minions. The words were actually derived from Korean, Japanese and Spanish words. Also, the "evil" Minions were created purple because purple is opposite yellow on the color wheel.
